Our sleuths grouped together this year to help us dig deeper in our
search for Ft. Reed. They helped Lou and Lee excavate the foundation
which we found last summer on the Heisey grounds. It is our opinion that
is may be some of the remains of Ft. Reed. Among the artifacts they
found were nails,
flint, metal wheels, pottery, marbles and other assorted items.
On Thursday they explored our Native American Heritage with a trip to the
courthouse to view our Native American Collection, learned how the
Native Americans hunted with and threw an atlatal. Steve Weaver, who
is Iroquois visited our camp explained how our early inhabitants lived in
the area, showed our campers wonderful artifacts that was the Native American
technology of their day. On Friday they prepared a Native American
meal, which they served to their parents as part of our ending ceremonies and
award presentation program.
We congratulate all the children who participated and
got down and dirty with us! Enjoy the pictures below of our kids, the dig
and exploration of our
early inhabitant's culture. Our thanks to all who helped and congrats to the
kids for another wonderful camp! Great Digging!
